In The CWR News this month:
The CWR resumes our Fashion Statements column because of the great importance of understanding how fashion contributes to or detracts from a professional image. Fashion Statements complements our Image Maker column, and we can now offer readers expert advise on fashion and image.
We are delighted with our new Fashion Statements team of Ms. Natalie Jobity and Ms. Carina Drakes. Ms. Jobity is President of
Élan Management, and is a certified image consultant who trained with the Image Resource Center of New York. She was also certified by the AICI (The Association for Image Consultants International).
Ms. Jobity is also the author of the newly released book, "Frumpy to Fabulous: Flaunting It. Your Ultimate Guide to Effortless Style." She has been featured as an image consultant and dress for success expert in a variety of print and online publications and on TV.
Ms. Carina Drakes is a freelance writer and self-proclaimed "fashion nerd" based out of Columbus, Ohio and Chicago, Illinois. She attended Columbia College Chicago and studied creative writing. She currently assists Ms. Natalie Jobity of Élan Management; her tasks include writing and managing Ms. Jobity's fashion and image blog.
Read the ladies' first Fashion Statements column in this month's CWR, Dress to Impress: Dress Like A Winner.
The November CWR also includes our first article from one of the new additions to our CWR Relationships TNT Team, Mr. Paul Carrick Brunson. Paul presents a very interesting article on the impact of technology on romantic relationships and answers the question, Is Technology the Enemy of Love?
Vote in our 2010 Reader's Poll for your favorite CWR writer, your favorite CWR column, and help us review the year in the December Year-In-Review issue of The CWR. Cast your vote now at: www.surveymonkey.com/s/RMCZNFZ
Have a great November.

We've all heard the phrase "dress for success" but when you get to the nitty-gritty what does it really mean? Dressing for success is more than just the clothes you wear. It is your total image presentation...The way you dress impacts how you are perceived as a professional. As you progress through college, you'll find it increasingly important to... Read more. |

Ruminations on Hope - By Azadeh Osanloo, Ph.D. Sometimes working for equity and justice is hard work. Well, there are a lot of times it is difficult. There are times when students dislike what I am saying, there are times when I am personally attacked, and there are times when I have to prove on the front end that my thoughts and work are valid, while others have that privilege from the onset. During these times I try to remember... Read more. Bullying: A Call for Civility - By Leona Johnson, Ph.D.
Bullying knows no age, ethnicity, gender, or social class. One only needs to stand out as being "different." Often people dismiss bullying among children as a normal part of growing up. It can leave children, teenagers, and young adults tense and afraid and even lead some to feel that they need to take drastic measures such as suicide....Bullying must be taken seriously. Our society must discuss... Read more.

Telegraph, Telephone, or Text - Why Won't They Just Use...?
By Sylvia Henderson

The nature of youth is to communicate with each other in ways that shut out adults. The nature of adults is to "teach those young folk to 'communicate correctly' so that we can understand them"... Why should one generation change for the other? Why should one generation try to communicate in ways that are uncomfortable for themselves in order to accommodate the other generation for whom those very ways are "unnatural"? Why not... Is Technology the Enemy of Love? - By Paul Carrick Brunson, MBA
It's hard to tell someone how you really feel in 140 characters.... That's the real peril of love via Twitter and text. You only get a brief time to get your point across, and without the visual ticks and clues you get from casual conversation a "joke" can quickly become offensive. An off-hand quip can become a heated fight. It's easy to be misunderstood when such a small form of communication can be read in so many different ways....Social networking is your friend when it comes to romance. You just have to follow several... Read more. |

After living in Chicago, IL for 23 years I relocated to Charlotte, NC in July 2010....As I humbly soaked in the celebration party thrown for me in Chicago on June 24... I was blessed to deliver the following message. To quickly set the scene, picture that there was a sign posted as people entered, saying "Fair Well Sporty." Thus I began by telling the audience that we had purposely spelled "FAIR" that way to... Read more. |

Ethnic and Racial Groups and Languages In Nigeria
By Steve Aborisade
Graduate Student at the University of Ibadan

| | Steve Aborisade |
Nigeria is really a product of colonial fiat; I hope that much is understood. It is also important to restate that my country is the most populous nation in Africa, accounting for approximately one-sixth of Africa's people with a July estimate of 149,229,090 people. The United Nations predicted that it would reach 289 million by 2050, making it the 8th populous nation on earth.... Nigeria's social boundaries are often described as artificial. This characterisation is generally... Read more. |
