Donell Edwards, Founder & Publisher |
Greetings,
We hope that you will have a wonderful 2011 and enjoy each day. There is lots of exciting news about this month's CWR. We officially proclaim January as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Month each year at The CWR. We encourage you to visit our tribute to Dr. King at our website through this link: cwrmagonline.com/KingMonth.aspx Since it is the beginning of a new year, we feel this is a great time for us to refocus, re-vision, and restate our mission which is first to be a total empowerment magazine that provides advice, information, and resources to our readers. Secondly, we are a collegiate student career transitional magazine with the express mission to help readers prepare to successfully make the transition from being students to becoming successful career professionals, and more importantly, outstanding, well prepared people. And finally, to help connect our diverse cultural and racial worlds through our Connecting Worlds Group and our Virtual Cultural XChange Programs, which promote understanding, appreciation, and respect for all people and their cultures.
We thank each of you for your support in helping us achieve our goals the past two years, and we hope that you will continue to support us and tell others about what we feel is the most unique magazine in America. Now, for highlights from this months CWR. We welcome our new writer Ms. Charlene Lester-Allen and her column, CWR WED-Women, Empowerment, and Destiny. We know that you will enjoy reading Ms. Lester-Allen's articles helping to empower women. Her first article is entitled "We Can, We Will, We Do...Succeed!" We also welcome Mr. Dwight Harshaw, who joins Mr. Gil Michel in writing our CWR Building Wealth column. This month Dwight offers very useful information about preparing and maintaining a budget.
Dr. Alduan Tartt returns after a long hiatus with a powerful article, "Why Be Wife-y When You Can Be A Real Wife?"
We officially welcome Dr. Torri Griffin as she presents her first article, "Daddy-Love: The Template for Real Love for Women...The Missing Link for Young Ladies. This may be a powerful revelation for some readers.
We have expanded The CWR VCX Team and we welcome new members from our China group, Peng Guanlin, Kristina Liu, and Susan Yang. We also welcome Rachel Ward to our USA group. We will be further expanding our USA group as well as our Brazilian group in weeks to come.
And you've got to read the inspirational article "Faith-Walk" from our CWR Sage, Sporty King. This is a must-read that you will want to keep where you can read it over and over again.
In fact, all of our articles in this month's issue are so good that you will want to read all of them.
So, happy reading, and we hope that 2011 will be the best year of your life.
Sincerely,
Donell Edwards

Which Word Should I Use?
By Monica Y. Jackson, MBA |
| | Monica Jackson, MBA | Proper word usage is essential when composing all written compilations - academically, professionally and personally. English can be "tricky" because many words sound alike, but have different meanings. To complicate the matter, some words are spelled the same, but have different meanings. This may cause you to ask, which word should I use? The purpose of this article is to help you....Continue reading. |

Inside Black America - Resilience
By Dr. Leona M. Johnson, Ph.D.
When adversity in life occurs, how does one respond? Is one able to bounce back against adversity or does one simply yield to adversity? In society, we are continuously faced with adversities and challenges whether we like it or not. Some people are able to find ways to cope with adversity and eventually are able to make things turn out well. Seibert (1996) describes these persons as "life's best survivors, those persons have amazing capacity for...continue reading. |

We form first impressions as soon as we see and hear each other. We cannot help ourselves. We see how a person looks and make judgment calls based on his or her grooming, attire, accessories, stance, movements, and facial expressions. If the telephone (or other audio medium) is the first medium by which we meet a person we form our opinions about him or her based on what we hear-voice volume, tone, inflection, rate of speech, and accents. When we form our impressions, we create a reality about a person that, for us, is...continue reading.

Why Settle for Being Wife-y When You Can Be A Real Wife
By Dr. Alduan Tartt, Ph.D.
By definition, a wife-y is someone who is wife-like but not an actual wife. She provides the man with all the benefits of being married- sex, loyalty, home-cooked meals, raising his kids- but without the actual title and ring afforded to a real wife....
As a man, I couldn't understand why a woman would settle for being an Almost-Wife versus a real one and then I met Renee. Renee sought relationship advice about...continue reading.

Faith Walk: An Interview With... By Sporty King, ACS, CL |

We are all on a Faith Walk. A Faith Walk is a necessary belief in ourselves that says when one door closes, another will always open. Finals Week By Ebonnye Jackson |

The good thing about finals week is that students are one step closer to their goal. It was a great accomplishment to complete my first college finals because I became a step closer to my goal. My People - By Kristina Liu

The other day we were having a discussion on stereotypes in our media theory class, and our professor asked us what kind of stereotypes other people have on the Chinese. Lots of words and phrases were mentioned, such as family-oriented, diligent, obedient, etc. I'm not going to tell which of them is right or wrong because all stereotypes exist for a reason. But one stereotype brought quite a surprise to us. It seems that in some people's mind, China remains a mysterious and backward place...continue reading.
