Dear Readers,

There are lots of exciting and informative articles in the October issue of The CWR, and we encourage you to peruse the magazine to find the articles of interest to you.

In this issue we continue to feature student writers from our CWR Student Correspondent Program.  You will find excellent articles not only relevant to students in our CWR Student Life, but of interest to everyone.

We are proud to introduce the newest member of The CWR Team, Ms. Amanda Lockett, who is a recent graduate of Howard University and who has been working in Beijing, China.  In her column, A Whole New World, Amanda shares with readers her experience as a graduate student and what it was like living and working in China.

There are also many enlightening articles from the rest of the team ranging from relationships, to fashion and image, to personal safety and security, to business and entrepreneurship, and more.  So, enjoy!

There is also much going on at The CWR and we encourage all of our readers to join us for our webcast on Friday, November 18th at 11:00 AM EST featuring Dr. Marcia Cantarella.  This webcast will provide a plethora of information on how to succeed in college and graduate.  The webcast is part of The CWR Student Success Program.  See the announcement in this issue for more information.

We also ask that readers are conscious of the fact that October is National Domestic Abuse Violence Month and National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Wherever you are, please join in and support activities and events in your area promoting these two very important causes.

Have a great October.

Sincerely,

Promoting World Handwashing Day In Nigeria
By Yange Ikyaa, B.S., M.S.

There are so many approaches aimed at achieving personal hygiene for all people on the planet, but hand washing, a simple and effective strategy for safe living, is still viewed and treated by many as a casual habit without serious links to preventive healthcare.  According to the World Health Organization, WHO, handwashing with soap is the most effective and inexpensive way to prevent diarrhea and acute respiratory infections, which take the lives of millions of children in developing countries every year. Together, they are responsible for the majority of all child deaths. In order to tackle this negative reality and ensure a world without healthcare crisis, a number of corporate entities came together on October 15, 2011 to mark the world handwashing day and promote the hygienic ideal of handwashing.  Read more.
