| WED - Women, Empowerment, and Destiny
WE CAN, WE WILL, WE DO ....... SUCCEED!!!!! By Charlene Lester-Allen, M.A. Multifaceted Entrepreneur, Visionary, Advocate
"Greatness is not measured by what a man or woman accomplishes, but by the opposition he or she has overcome to reach his goals." Dorothy Height

Women, Empowerment, and Destiny are the perfect trio for success. As women, we face a multiplicity of factors that can make or break our definition of success. Success is one definition that will vary from woman to woman. Happiness is another definition that varies from woman to woman. The ultimate pursuit to define the terms success and happiness is a path that women embark upon daily. There is definitive path for each woman that seeks to merge the true essence of being a woman, empowerment to be the best at all times, and courage to walk and claim that what she is destined to do.
As women, our most formative years are those in which we are learning things that shape, form, and qualitatively and instinctively teach us who, what, and why we are. The elements that teach us where and how we are to be in life will differ from woman to woman, but they are also synonymously the same. They are the same based on the memories of middle school, high school, and now reflective college memories that collectively form our existence on a daily basis. Albeit in diverse forms that appear abstract, the methodology is the same. The more we live our lives, the more we learn.
Empowerment in this daily process of living and learning emerges from many sources. It may come from books, mentors, spiritual connections, parents, or peers. The list is infinite, but the major point is that we must find the individual source of empowerment that works and tap into it. We need motivation and encouragement daily, because college, just as other aspects of life, can and will throw curve balls. Individual success is based on how we view opposition to the goals that we have in life. Destiny, as defined by the Merriam Webster Dictionary, is something to which a person or thing is destined: fortune <wants to control his own destiny>, a predetermined course of events often held to be an irresistible power or agency. The contributing factors to the aforementioned does and will continue to vary from woman to woman. It is extremely vital that as women past trials, hurt, and pain do not, I repeat do not, take precedence over what the future has in store ...just for you! Yes, things happen in our life but, each individual trial does not determine what happens next in your life. That has already been determined, decided, and stored up for you. What has been set aside and saved for you is more precious than the biggest diamond. So, in short, learn to take the lead that destiny has for you and stop torturing yourself over the past. The past is going, going, and finally gone. DO NOT LET IT INTERFERE WITH YOUR FUTURE. Grab a hold of your future and don't let go. As women we must hold steadfast to our innate talents, gifts, and abilities. We are architecturally designed, to STAND! We are tempered with faith, love, and understanding and, therefore, we must not forget to guard our gifts by fully utilizing them, and most importantly, passing something on to others. This must be a passing of whatever impartation you have been blessed with in your life to your generation, and the future generation. In summary, the WED Column is new to the College World Reporter Online Magazine, and it will on a monthly basis stress and focus on women and the fact that we are very rare diamonds via stories of leadership examples, role models, and mentors that inspire women worldwide. We are diamonds, and diamonds are formed deep beneath the earth's surface under intense heat and pressure. As previously stated, our daily living will have curve balls and home runs. We must be able to stand the pressure and challenges because all of it is a part of the diamond formation. The diamond during the process of formation slowly makes it way to the surface. Through challenges, exams, schedules, adjusting, and appropriating, as women we are forming everyday into what we are destined to be, which is great! The diamond in the end after everything shines brightly! A diamond, just like women is pretty and majestic; we experience many things and still shine in the end because that is our destiny. Yes, we will always have adversities, problems, success, and triumph, but always know that each of you are Precious, Unique, and Rare DIAMONDS. Be encouraged and empowered to shine bright; BLING-BLING!
